Consultation with Regional Industry Careers Advisors (RICAs), Education Vocation and Enterprise (EVE) Coordinators and schools within the region is to be utilised to identify target industry areas.
The program is designed achieve a number of career development outcomes for both students and employers including, providing;
Students with
o information about specific local employment options
o ‘hands on’ exposure to working in the industry
o an opportunity to learn a core industry skill
Employers with
o an opportunity to show case their business
o a chance to assess the current employability skills of a group of students genuinely interested in their industry
o information and support for potential VET, WPL and ASP involvement.
Importantly, the program is designed to provide more than just ‘an industry visit and exposure for students.
South West VETlink will support follow-up activities that are tailored to suit each school. This will ensure maximum outcomes are achieved via the program and the interaction between the school and the industry organisation. Any follow up activities will be assessed, funded and managed under new project entities.

Donnybrook DHS - Verve Energy - Adopt a School Project 2009
This project propose to partner Donnybrook DHS with Verve Energy under the Adopt a School program to facilitate Wind Turbine and EV Car Challenge projects and activities being undertaken by students at Donnybrook DHS.
DDHS has for a number of years participated successfully in the Swan TAFE eV challenge, achieving outstanding results including placing 2nd in 2008 eV challenge, winning both the Engineering Award and Encouragement Award. They are again in 2009, participating in the challenge with two eV cars being designed, manufactured and operated by DDHS science students.
A new project commenced in 2008 and continuing in 2009 is the design, manufacture and installation of a wind turbine generator for use at the school.
School staff training and experience in the design and science of both the eV car and wind-turbine projects is limited and the school has expressed a need for guidance/mentoring from industry experts. This project proposes to formally partner Verve Energy and DDHS under the Adopt a School program to facilitate Wind Turbine and EV Car Challenge projects and activities being undertaken by students at Donnybrook DHS.
Online Employer Directory 2009
This project collates and presents Workplace Learning induction information, collected from all schools in 2008. Additionally the project includes the collection of Expressions of Interest from industry to link with schools in Career and Training Support & Adopt a School programmes.
Information collected will;
• be placed on the VETlink website in a directory format enabling schools from all regions to efficiently access updated information,
• specify the employers whom have completed the induction process, and
• include specific employer requests for placements including an icon to note that the workplace can cater for students with varying levels of disability.
Information within the directory will be accessible to all schools via a secure log-in.
Online Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) Log Book 2009
In 2007, a requirement was identified for an online resource to allow students undertaking Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) to complete SWL logs and journals from school and home computers. In 2008, SW VETlink was commissioned to produce and trial an Online Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) Log Book to meet this need.
In 2009, this development of this resource will completed and the resource trialled by SWL students and coordinators. Following successful trial, the resource will be made available for all SWL students and staff in the South West region.
